The holiday period is always a tricky time to try and get a team together and this match proved to be one of my most difficult. My team came together as well as Mark Hewlett to help me out suggesting names who I could approach.  Brothers Callum and Cameron Green who had played junior golf in the past agreed to join us at Dudley Golf Club. Rhys Dunne and Sean McDonnell were the other two lads who came together to complete my team.

From the first moment the Club Professional, the catering staff, the club Captain and the President elect were absolutely fantastic, making both team very welcome and even taking time to explain to both team the quirks and layout of the course. The morning foursome were all close from the start but Staffordshire proved too strong for us taking the foursome matches 0.5 to 4.5.

The afternoon matches became more difficult because the morning results, needing a 7.5 to 2.5 win in the singles to take the victory. New boys  Rhys, Sean and Callum where the only guys to get a win, Neil Grubb who snapped his shin not 12 months ago always give his best managed to bring home a half point. I can never criticise my team ever for their commitment and dedication to the team as I know they always give 100%, we were just beaten by the better team. In the end the match result was an 11-4 defeat.

I couldn’t finish without saying a massive thank you to Dudley Golf Club for making both teams feel welcome to their club, especially the club captain and president elect who stayed all day. To Mark Hewlett who feels like my right hand man who suggests players who I can approach when I’m short of a team. And to all my players who once again supported me and the county, playing their games in the manner that the matches should be played.

I look forward to my last match as Captain and hopefully we can finish on a high.

Mark Dunkley

2nd Team Captain
